A Valentine’s Perspective

“No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us”. – 1 John 4:12

Valentine’s day. Roses. Love. Chocolates. Hearts. Even chocolate hearts!

When you are single, it can be easy to have a negative attitude toward this February 14th holiday.  In college, my friends and I even called it “Singles Awareness Day” in rebellion against the romance of the day.

This holiday is all about love.  But just because we don’t have romance in our lives doesn’t mean we don’t have love.

Jesus gave the command to love one another in John 13:34.  A quick online search results in many more verses that reflect this same topic.  We are to love because Jesus loved us enough to give His life for us.

While Christian love is not limited to Valentine’s Day, this holiday an opportunity to love others with Christ’s love.

This year, I decided to host a single girls Valentine’s Day tea party. I wanted to create a special event for some single ladies I know.  I made tasty treats, set the table with my Grandma’s rosebud china, and decorated with roses and doilies. We had such a sweet time together for our “high tea!”

I encourage you to think of a way to show Christ’s love this Valentine’s Day and make it a special day for someone. Maybe a tea party isn’t your thing, but you could buy something special for your roommate, or have a date night with your niece or nephew (or borrow some kids from church and to bless the kids and their parents!), or take some yummy treats in to work for your co-workers.

I’d love to hear how you decided to show Christ’s love to someone this Valentine’s Day!

Below are a few glimpses from my tea party!
